Hot rod Bikes

Thought you may get a kick out of my bikes. Now mind you, I made these about fifteen years ago, long before all the companies were repoping vintage bikes. I wish I had a photo of my two tone neon one speed Schwinn cruiser. The front was yellow, the back was red with them faded together in the middle. The front rim was red and the back was yellow and I had a "strobe stripe" along the upper bar and on the chain guard. That strobe stripe was just the opposite as well, red on the front half over the yellow front and yellow over the back half over the red rear. I could wheelie this sucker forever! I could ride it like a darn unicycle on the rear wheel right up to the back of peoples heads walking! Man did I have fun with it.

These two are "hot rods" with modern "drive trains" The girls is a '57 Murray. When I got it, it still had the orginal purple paint and purple side wall tires! It has a three piece alloy crank, alloy wheels, stem and bars, 18 speeds, cable and brake lugs welded on. The boys is a '39 (yes I called Columbia with the serial number) Columbia that was sold thru Goodyear tire stores as a "Goodyear Hiway Patrol" (it still has the brass emblem). It is a 12 speed with Stermyarcher roller bearing drum brakes. Both have all the seat parts chromed, and truss rods and what ever else I could get done.

The bad part is, they are heavy. Never weighed the girls, but the boys is 55lbs!

Brian
