Hot Rod insurance?

Anyone know a good Hot Rod insurance company? I'm looking for one based on what you paid for the upgrades.

There are several that work well - I'm using Grundy who base their insurance on your declared value. In the past 4 years, it only went up $18 when I increased the value of the car by $7500. I don't have any restrictions other then they frown on use of a 'hot rod' as a daily driver but really have no way to check. Then other folks use Hagarty and are happy though I found them to be more restrictive as more expensive for the same coverage in New York State. There are several other national companies but you do have to look at the fine print and decide what's best for you at what you are willing to pay based on where you live.

I've got Hagerty, agreed value for mine. I get a discount on extra vehicles after the first one. Agreed value of $15,000 costs me $195 a year for the first car.

I would have to give a thumbs up for Hagerty. I had a fender bender to the tune of 8500. They took real good care of repairing my truck...and no grief at all. Very Happy Camper here.

The best references will come from those that have had an unfortunate circumstance, and how that was resolved. I have had no problem getting the insurance value on the amount I have had invested. On the truck I recently asked for a 10K increase in value. They asked why and I told them it was due to recent and nearly completed upgrades...no problem.

I used American Collector in the past. I use Haggerty now. Have had claims with both. No problems with either one.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the feedback its my first time looking for this kind of insurance. There comes a point when your project car becomes expensive good to know there are companies out there that understand Hot Rodders.

You may also try State Farm. I have 35,000 stated value. 1500 miles per year limit. About 165.00 a year. Much cheaper than Grundy.
My son just bought a 1963 Split window corvette. 50,000 stated value. 1500 miles per year. about 320.00 per year. Anything over 50,000 must have an appraisel. p.s., he has an accident and a couple of tickets, my record is clean and perfect.

wait till he finds out that "state value policy" isn't worth the papers it's written on.

stated value isNOT the same as agreed value..
good luck with state farm..

My State Farm agent will not insure my old cars at all. Anything older than 65 or modified in any way.. Also won't insure my tow truck. A commercial vehicle for personal use.

My "T" bucket and 48 Ford coupe were insured thru them for many years at regular rates. Then several years ago they cancelled all policies on old or modified cars..

I still use State Farm on my 4 daily drivers, only because of their rates. I am very satisfied with Haggerty
