"Hot Rod" The Movie

Hey guys,

When I was a kid about 30 years ago I saw a movie on TV that I think was called "Hot Rod". It was about either a mid 30's coupe, gasser (Willy's, Chevy or Ford) I think. The main character got a stolen engine, burned the serial numbers off with acid and went from town to town racing. That movie is what began my lunacy into cars. Does anyone know of it or the correct name? I would like to get a copy of it if possible. Thanks

Hot Rod

I found a reference to a movie called Hot Rod that was made in 1950. Take a look and see if the description or maybe the characters ring a bell.

I bought a copy of "Hot Rod" on eBay....I have it around here somewhere.

It stared Gregg Henry, Grant Goodeve and Robert Culp. I think Pernell Roberts of "Bonanza" fame was the Sherriff. it was a TV movie from 1979

As Poncho says old '79 TV movie. Terrible acting, almost zero plot and one of the best hot rod movies ever made! I watch it two or three times/yr. EbaY is the place to get a copy. Don't expect a perfect copy - all that is available is a second or third generation copy of the original but the ebaY version is pretty good.

Yep, that's the movie. The only thing on Ebay is a European company. I would rather buy from the states. I also looked at some of the online movie houses and they don't carry it. Any other suggestions. This site and you guys are a great.

BTW - Anyone going to Carlise tomorrow looks like it may be raining.

You guys have to get a hold of a guy I see at all the rod shows who sells vintage hotrod and monster movies. I think it is called "Memory lane" or something like that. My brother bought about fifty films from him! "The Giant Guila monster" with a guy who puts a bunch of nitro glyserine into his 32 Highboy and sends it ghost driving into the monster to blow it up!

He has "Drag strip girl" and on and on. Some are just fun, but they are pretty poor quality. He does have the original 1950 version of Hot Rod.
