Hot Start Issues SB 350

I know there are lost of threads about this, but none answer my specific question. I have a 1969 Chevy C-10 with a supercharged 350, and the stock starter isnt up to the duty. I have insulated it, and the wiring, but it still is having hot start issues. I am going to order a summit or jegs mini starter, I just need to know which one to order. I currently have a stock, cast iron nosed starter with the offset bolt pattern, which means I have a 168 tooth flexplate. The block has both bolt pattern holes on it.

The inline bolt pattern mini starters say they will work with 153 or 168 tooth flexplates, while the offset bolt pattern mini starters say they will only work with 168 tooth flexplates. Which starter do I need to order? Is there an advantage to the offset bolt pattern? The reason I ask is there is about a $70 difference in price. The offset ones are more expensive. Thanks for your help!

Okay, I will be ordering the straight bolt pattern starter. I just wanted to be sure that I didnt need the offset pattern because that is the type I have now. One question though, why would they even make the offset bolt pattern one that only works on the 168 tooth then? Why wouldnt you oreder the one that works on both? Are some block only tapped for the offset design? Thanks for your help.

That's the case. Some blocks don't even have the holes much less threads.

Well, I decided to stop in at my local speed shop, and they had a Hitachi Mini Starter in stock for $129.99. Billet aluminum mount, with 6 different indexable positions. I was very impressed. Bolted right up, works like a charm. My moroso heat shield even fit it.
