Hotrodders.com defeats Streetbeasts -- all lawsuits dropped!

We win.

The last of the three lawsuits filed against me by Streetbeasts and its owner, George Levin, has been dismissed. All of their claims of defamation failed. Scanned court documents of all three dismissals are attached to this post.

More importantly, the single wiki article at the center of these lawsuits has remained online the entire time, through three lawsuits, across two states, over more than two years.

Because this moment is so full of win, a HUGE thank-you goes out to all who helped get us here. Freedom isn't free, and securing it often means putting your money where your mouth is. We had numerous donations to the legal fund, from individuals and companies in the industry making cash donations, auctioning off their parts for the cause, and offering free goods/services/artwork. We also had plenty of help spreading the word via forum members, bloggers, and other forums that voiced their support in spite of the obvious risk of becoming additional targets of Streetbeasts. The full list of donors is here.

We are indebted also to those who first blew the whistle on Streetbeasts and its ownership. Curt Scott wrote extensively about the frauds being perpetrated by Streetbeasts's previous incarnation, Classic Motor Carriages, and paid the price for it. Stuart Rado was a consumer activist who worked to expose Classic Motor Carriages, even representing himself in court. Rado was pursued, quite literally, to his grave, as it was revealed in court documents that they "knew that Rado was dying of cancer but continued to pursue him with motions and notices of trial and other pleadings, one such notice of hearing being served within days of brain surgery."

This is not the first time that a wealthy entity has attempted to squelch our free speech with false legal claims. The last time something of this magnitude occurred, we had exposed a stealth marketing campaign tied to The Learning Channel. The parent company of The Learning Channel, Discovery Communications, falsely claimed defamation, and demanded takedown. Once their actions were publicized, they backed down, and quietly pulled some related episodes of the television show Overhaulin' off the air. Historically, no such takedown attempts have ever been successful here, and have only succeeded in drawing even more attention to the original act.

It should be noted that, in a completely unrelated coincidence, George Levin, Streetbeasts owner, has recently been mentioned frequently for his alleged involvement in a billion-dollar Ponzi scheme in Florida. George Levin has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit that alleges that he lured people into investing hundreds of millions of dollars into the Ponzi scheme with Scott W. Rothstein (aka the "Mini-Madoff"), who has already been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for his involvement in the scheme. Last we heard of Mr. Levin, he was negotiating an agreement to surrender most of his assets to pay back those who were defrauded by the Ponzi scheme. For more details, see articles in: Miami Herald, Wall Street Journal, Bob Norman's Blog at Broward/Palm Beach News, and Wikipedia.

As a final note, I know that some of our members are currently building Streetbeasts cars. Every effort will be extended to help them see their projects through to completion. Streetbeasts's assets recently went up on the auction block, but there are parts in circulation, reports of ex-employees providing services, and, as usual, plenty of people on this forum willing to lend a hand.

King Richard solicited Longstrides to speak his mind and respected his answer, but in the next scene he was in the stocks.

The necessity of Tort Reform is epitomized in this case. Jon was forced to hire attorneys to defend himself in three frivolous suits that were dismissed with "each party must pay attorney's fees". We need tort reform to convey all attorney's fees to the plaintiff when loss or dismissal is incurred.

Great effort from Jon and fellow hobbyist.

Great news!

I hope that all of us realize the victory that Jon has given us. Without his efforts this site and our Freedom Of Speech would have been reduced. We all owe Jon a debt we can not ever repay.

Thank you Jon!

Time is money and I can't imagine all the hours that Jon put into this, or was stressed by it and I can't help being sorry that Jon had to be the guy that got it. Kudos to Jon for standing his ground and for everyone who donated.

Jon is the fund now closed?

Absolutely great.
As one who was singled out by name at one point, I too feel relief that this is finally over, free speech as spelled out in the US Constitution has triumphed.
