Hi

I was thinking about painting a car with some NE-503 Orange neon. I want it to be a crazy loud paintjob and thats why im wanting to go with this color. Im reading that HoK neons have limited lightfastness.

I was thinking maybe if I did a triple neon of this color. Ill paint it then wet sand and repaint it with the same color a few times. Would this make the paint-job last longer without fading? How long do yall think a neon would last out here in Las Vegas?

In a word, no. The color is sort of a "candy" color to begin with. You shoot a white base (I am not certain about HOK but other neons I have used) then the neon over it. If you were to try to spray the neon over a dark base it wouldn't be nearly as lively.

The neon pigments fade, BAD, that is all there is to it. I shot a lot of it before it was popular back in the late eighties, early ninties. It would fade out very fast if it spent any time in the sun.

I like them too, fun stuff.

I totally agree with Martinsr,I too have done Neon both on limited size graphics and full jobs, and always advised that regardless of UV limiters this paint color WILL fade , usually will last only when limited to short periods of exposure of extended sun light................

absolutely right!! never especially in your location. some neon colors fade faster than others, blue and yellow being the fastest and orange being one of the better ones but they all fade no matter how much you put on. you will see a difference in as little as a few weeks to a couple months. a whole summer sitting in vegas sun and its done. there is a flourescent yellow pigment out now that is lightfast and may be available but you want orange so thats out. tangelo pearl is damn close to that neon without having all the bad effects. i know its not all that breath taking in the color chip but trust me, put it over white and a whole car is done in it and you need sunglasses. its loud!!
