House of Kolor Paint

Is House of Color paint any good, or is it just a well known brand? I saw it in the Eastwood catalog and wondered.

A local hotrod shop here used House of Kolor almost exclusively. They've created countless show cars and the finish is always fantastic. -Should mention though, that I hear the paint is somewhat more pricey than most.

This is only, I hear stuff: I was told that HOK paint does not hold up well.

I am at the point for paint too, but can't make up my mind on colors and design. It is either HOK or PPG Vibrance. Colors??? Not sure yet. Both are extremely expensive, to me at least...

hok has been around for years and years. imo its one of the best paints on the market. i dont think its too expensive by any means but just like anything else it depends on the color since some of the pbc line dont cover well and will require more product. hok is strictly a custom paint. they do not have color matching abilitles.

HOK paint

I haven't painted for over 20 years now & getting ready to do another project. I've vacillated some over PPG, Autocolor & HOK. My local paint store carries all 3 right now, so supply is not an issue.

Right now, I'm leaning towards HOK - this may change down the road as I investigate prices & associated factors. Why am I leaning towards HOK ? Well, look @ the product support. For 50 bucks you can buy their digital paint booth & paint your car on your computer. When done, it prints out the paint codes. You can 2 tone, stripe, flame etc w/this program. I like this !! They are supporting the hobbyist in my opinion.

They have an excellent tech book - I have hard copies they have given out free to anyone walking into their booth @ the tradeshows. For me, & again I am not a pro, but I like the easy to follow instructions on paints that I am not all too familiar with. PPG guys have individual spec sheets that do not seem to be user friendly for the hobbyist - maybe meant more for the pros.

PPG has 3 blacks right now if memory serves me correctly - all for OEM usage. I just want the "blackest" black I can get, & the HOK paint seems to deliver this in my initial observations.

To me, HOK is in the business of supporting the hobbyist/custom painter, & do not rely on Detroit to dictate policy to them. I would prefer to buy from those who support the industry, which appears what HOK is doing.

Mike.

You get what you pay for and HOK is GREAT PAINT!! It is proven time and time again. It is definatly not a production type paint and i think that is why some people have problems with it, it a CUSTOM paint and you have to use the HOK tech manual to get all the info before spraying. The thing you have to remember is that a painter is going to bad mouth any product that they have had problems with. I had some initial problems using HOK topcoats and clears because i was spraying it like a production paint(higher solids). I had been using Spies-Hecker(another great product, but very production based and very high solids.) and stared shooting HOK like a higher solids paint, big mistake. But if you or your painter wants to shoot some HOK get the tech manual and stick to it like it was your bible. You will be blown away by the results, I know I was.

HOK is the best, problem is they don't have all the colors PPG and dupont have.

In other words if you want 2000 Corvette Electron blue, good luck!

But if you want a custom color no problem.
