Have you noticed the number of vehicles now that have specialty hoses? I can't believe what I hear from people whom want to do some preventative maintenance like belts and hoses. The cost is right through the roof and now just to change a simple hose you must first have a special tool to release the clamp.. it goes on and on. It is going to drive even more struggling independent repair shops right out of business.
Remember when there were 3 headlight bulbs? Rectangular, 5" round and 7" round? And just the two rounds before that? BTW, there's legislation before congress that's trying to make it illegal for owners to repair their own vehicles!
That is one busy lookin hose.
Glad it aint my truck
I am to cheap for anything that high dollar.
Truck prices are nuts anymore.
I am gonna drive my ol f 150 till the wheels fall off.
Buy a used Jaguar (XK8). neutral safety switch from the dealer. it's only $760.00 . bought a used one for 150 and put the car on E-bay. stick a fork in me, I'm done.
If I had to replace that hose, I would go to Home Depot and get the needed PVC plumbing fittings and use standard rubber radiator hose and clamp it all together for about 1/8 the cost. I would even turn a bead in a lathe on the ends of the PVC to keep the hoses from blowing off under pressure. I also would paint the white PVC black and you'd wouldn't notice the difference.
. When making a water/oil cooler for my boat, I chased around and finally found a plumbing shop far off that still had the black PVC fittings so it would match the black Mercruiser 351W engine... but I wasn't able to mount it up on the engine, so now it sits down on the white fibreglas boat bottom... Gang Aft Agley... oh well...
.
Let's see, I have a lathe, I have a Home Depot down the road, PVC can certainly handle the pressure and temperature, heater hose and radiator hose is cheap enough and at any auto parts store, hose clamps are certainly not a problem, I have a tape measure to measure everything and a pen and paper to write everything down before I venture out to get the stuff, I can use the old hose as a template. What's the problem?? I'll take the money I saved and take my lovely wife out to dinner and still be ahead of the game.
OK, OK, if it was my vehicle, I would get creative. If it was a customer vehicle, I would prepare the customer for a shock and use the insanely expensive original hose. It kills me to see some of the product designs that come on new vehicles and all kinds of products for that matter. New designers most likely fresh out of engineering school don't seem to get the "KISS" principle because they have powerful CAD systems that they have to justify. I was a project engineer for 25 years and I saw it over and over.
how about when manufacturer cancels the part after 5 years and then runs out of stock after 8-9, then you don't have a choice but to get creative... manufacturers cancel pretty much all interior parts and accessories in a few years anymore, once parts stock is gone, they are gone.... makes me sad.... especially with the shotty quality elaborate electronics that require replacement o so frequently...
then you WISH you could pay 300.00for that little hose, or whatever it may be
Then again you can drop back to a 1975 Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, International and still buy hoses and parts for a few bucks.
