Post How about SBC 376450 heads

Hi there,

Are these heads any good (flow rates, porting hints etc)? I've done some search and some says they are sh... and others say that they are good. Planning to put them to 355 chevy with flat tops.

Are all of them with small 1.7something intake valves?? Can they be easily modified to 1.94 intake valves? Like take valves from #882 heads. I'm trying to get more comp ratio and hopefully more power at the same time with very little money......sounds stupid but would like to try. Now I'm running with #882 heads.

Here's a picture of the Blazer where the engine is:

Thanks

Jare from Finland

the 450 castings were used on 262 267 and 305 engines, they have real small ports, valves and chambers, while they would shoot your compression way up there, the extra compression isn`t gonna make up for the loss of flow rate compared to the 882 casting, if you want to kick up compression with the 882`s, I`d suggest getting them milled about .020 and use a GM head gasket with .028 thickness, this should put you right in the 9:1 area. anytime you need to check up on a set of head castings, use this link
