how to adjust rear brakes on ranger 2005

Hi everybody, Had to take our 2005 ford ranger into tuffy's for brake work, they replaced front rotors and pads , told us the front brakes were bad because the rear brakes were not even making contact with the drums. When I asked how to adjust the rear brakes, was told to put the emergency brake on
when ever I park it for the night and this would automatically adjust the rear brake, is this right? is there any other way to adjust them? Thanks for you help,

Most self adjusters work while hitting the brake when backing up. In most cases this stops working due to the adjusters freezing up.
Generally you can adjust the brakes through the backing plate as well with a brake spoon or a screwdriver. If you went to a mechanic that didnt adjust the rears as part of the brake job, you need to find a new mechanic
