How bad is this?

I just put a B&M TransPak on my TH350 and I love it. It said to add 6 quarts of fluid and I did but it wasn't even at the add line, so I put another and it was a little bit past it, so I added like a half a quart.

It's about a millimeter or two past full now. Should I drain a little bit out or is it fine? I mean, if it's detrimental to my tranny, then I'll do it, but I just want to know if that little bit is really going to do anything. I can understand a full quart past full, so yeah, just wanting to make sure....

That small amount of overfill won't hurt anything.

I would check it again once the trans gets warm, and I will assume you know that is also when the engine is running. It will usually show a bit higher.

I am no transmission mechanic, but I have a friend who is, and he has always told me it is better to have a hair too little than a hair too much oil. His explanation is that if the fill level is too high, the trans can whip the oil. If this happens, it can add air to the oil, and cause the pump to cavitate. I dont know if this is true, but I do know that cavitating a high pressure pump will eat it in no time.

If the level is only a very little above the line, when hot, it should not be a problem. A pint or more over may cause cavitation. ALso I believe that the fluid level will show higher when the engine is NOT running, as the fluid is not being pumped thru the system, and some has drained back into the pan.
