How bad is this?

A while ago I had a poly lock back off on one of my exhaust valves. Ever since this happened I have not been able to make it stop backfiring through the carb. I figured that i didn't have the timing down right. Any way it developed a leak at the back of the intake manifold. I went to pull off the manifold and when i did i noticed that that lifter was way down in its bore. I thought that was strange so i pulled it out. The bottom is completely concaved in with alot of metal missing. It also ground my cam almost flat. The valve had a very slight bend in it above the guide. I guess my question is has running all of those metal shavings through the engine smoked the bearings or am I ok. Oh and by the way latley I've noticed a sporatic knocking coming from the lower end of the engine.

It`s likely the bent valve caused it to not open, thus wearing the cam lobe out and killing the lifter. It`s a good chance bearing damage occured, the only way to know is to pull the pan and check the bearins. I would go ahead and yank the whole thing and do a rebuild, if the valve stuck open at any point there`s a chance also it burned the valve.
