Post How can i tell if my tranny is a 700r4 or a th350?

i pulled the engine and tranny, tranny has a sticker says is was rebuilt blah blah, some serial numbers, i just wanted to know if anyone could tell me how i can tell which it is by looking at it, thanks

look on left side (drivers side) If there is an electrical connector that is about 3/4" square with 4 connectors, then it is either a 200r or 700R4. It will be bigger than a 350. You evidently did not consider that it could also be a T400??

the 700r has a pan that is rectangular in shape the 350 has a pan that is almost square but has one corner cut off at an angle. the 400 has a pan that is sguare at the front with a notch and a roundish protrusion at the rear(how's that for a description roundish protrusion!) some 350 turbos also have the 4prong outlet. 400 electrics are round with 1or 2 prongs depending on model

Go to page 10 of trans & rearends, look at WILLYS36 thread. [table of rearend and front end dimensions] This will answer all your questions.

wait, isn't a 700r4 a four speed? like having an overdrive? couldn't you drive it to tell? or was it not in a running vehicle?
