Can changing the rear seal of a C6 be done in your driveway? How simple/difficult is it?

Of course it can. I have done just about everything you can think of on the side of the interstate with people buzzing by at seventy plus miles an hour so a repair like that in the drive way is a cinch. Do you know how to replace a rear trans seal? If not I will give you a few pointers but I strongly suggest you do a search for pictures on the web or buy a Chilton repair manual for your vehicle. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

You will have to jack the car up from the rear and put it on jack stands. If it is a PU truck you want need to do this. You will have to remove the drive shaft and slide the yoke out of the trans. I use tools that I have made to pull most of the seals that I replace so go and buy a good seal puller. An auto-body dent puller works good too. Basically you tap the seal in with a small hammer and re-install the drive shaft. If you have never done any of this be careful and block the wheels so the car does not roll over you. A little bit of fluid will run out of the tail shaft when you pull the drive shaft out so have a small drip pan handy when you do pull it out. Button it all up and check the fluid before you take off in it.

Don't forget to block the wheels and put the trans in neutral before you start!

No, I haven't done anything like this before. Thank you so much for your assistance. According to your reply, it seems to be an easy fix.

I do need to buy that puller to make the job easier.

THANK YOU!!!
