Well it was.. I mean it always is.. I stay on my oil and it never drops between changes.. And I change it often.. Well now there is nothing on the dip stick when I checked it this morning! Where did it go? Just all the sudden vanished! No leaks, No smoke.. Is someone playing a bad joke on me?
I am freaking out a little.. :smash:
On these vortechs do you hook the oil pressure gauge up the same way as on the old small blocks? Seems like the port was near the back of the motor on the drivers side?
Thanks for all the help fellas.. What would I do without you?
I am sure you check to make sure the drain plug is in and tight. Also sure you have looked under the car for an obvious oil leak ie filter loose, oil pan punctured. At this point, I would drain the oil just to see how much is remaining in the car. I would not add oil just to get it up to the full mark on the dip stick, though the math will tell you how much is remaining. If there are no signs of an oil leak, I would pull some plugs to see how bad they are. If a lot of oil is going out the tail pipe, you will see the results on the plugs.
Since there is insufficient oil in the motor, you probably do not have to worry about the gauge.

Trees thanks buddy.. Your right about the gauge I guess.. I just wanted to be as safe a possible before I started it up again..
I have had no time at all to do much investigating, but I see no real signs of oil leaking under the truck.
That is a good idea checking the plugs.. I am going to do that as soon as I get a chance. I am also going to drain the remaining oil and see what is left.
I have been riding my motorcycle in the mean time and I just rode about 5 miles through 12 inches of water in down town Mobile.
A sure sign of low oil, going around a corner will have the same effect.. Looks like you might have to check the level a little more often. Personally I look at mine before I go out, sort of a preflight, tire pressure get checked also.
While your pulling the plugs, check your PCV valve. A bad valve will cause excessive crank case pressure that will force oil passed the rings or, suck it up from the valve cover. Either way, that could be where your oil is going.
Look for black carbon on the end of the plugs not the insulator but the flat surface at the bottom of the threads.

Thank you Mr. Box. I will replace the PCV valve.. I have replaced so many things on this truck and I totally forgot about that.
