Just looked closer at the thread, and seen it is equivalent to rustoleum over here. An oil based paint. You would have to be nuts to put a real paint job over that later on, without stripping off the rustoleum. He never told the brand of the
"professional" high-density foam roller
he used. Is this the iwata of paint rollers, lol. I used an oil based paint called x-o rust a long long time ago to paint an old rusty trailer my parents would make us rake the yard and haul leaves in. Made a good practice paint in my craftsman spray gun.
Can't say that any of my friends or I took a real cheap way out when we were young and strapped for cash. I remember helping my brother and his friend sand and tape up his shovevette. Then it was sprayed with enamel spray cans. Can't even remember how many it took, but It probably would have been about as cheap to find a gun and compressor and buy some centari or something.
