How Do I Change Speakers?

Okay, I know how to change the speaker but I was wondering how would I go about getting to the speakers in my truck. the speakers that are in my truck right now are really crackly and sound like crap. What do I need to do to change them. do I need to take the whole dashboard apart or what? My truck is an 85 GMC Sierra C1500

I have an 86' chevy truck about like yours and to replace the dash speakers you will have to pull out your dash and along with your dash bezel. Once you get to the speakers its pretty much just a few small bolts holding them in there.

There is about 4 screws at the bottom of the plastic part of the dash and one in the door jamb on the passenger side. There are also several on the top of the dash bezel. you may be able to get the dash out without haveing to take the bezel completley out as long as you loosen it up some by unhooking your stereo. once you get those out, you may have to take the trim peices off on the pillars. After that just slide the dash out being careful not to hit it against anything. then its just a few screws that hold the speakers in. Once your done putting in the speakers, to put the dash in it just go in the opposite order of everything that you did to get it out. Good luck on your dash, let me know if you run into any trouble.

if you try to leave the bezel in, you'll have to take the top screws on the bezel out, they go into the dash frame.
Its really not that hard to do, but I find its easier to do with the bezel out

For more information about speakers and changing them,I would recommend the folks at Crutchfield.com. They sell name brand stuff at very good prices, are very helpful about specific year and model installation and lots of times supply free wiring harnesses and other goodies. If you are patient, you can monitor their discount clearance items and get fully operational items from their scratch and dent site for substantial discounts. Same warranty and who cares, you are covering them up.
