library

Some large public libraries have an automotive reference area you can read and make copies but not take them home and get them dirty-greasy.

If you can find anyone with a '70's Ford shop manual, their transmission sections are about the best ones available.

(almost makes me want to scan my copy of that, the C4 and FMX and post - but don't have the time right now)

One of my tractor forums has quite an extensive library of scanned manuals......It seemed that one of the larger manufacturers didnt like this and threatened legal action.....that section is now gone. If someone will scan the info for you great, but there are not many sites that have this info.

Used factory service manuals can be found on ebay for very reasonable money. I usually spend less than $15 when I get one. Just buy one.
