How do I protect my outdoor project?
 

This has probably been discussed before but I'm not sure how to search the topic. I'm forced to work outside and have gotten to the point of welding patches and replacing sheet metal. Can you recommend something that will protect my work until I'm ready to get into real paint prep. I'm currently doing the engine bay (motor has been pulled) and shock towers and my long term plan is to detail them for a better than stock look. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That would be epoxy. :thumbup:

What u want to use is a self-etching primer. This will seal your bare metal from the elements. It is transparent with a tint to it, and all it takes is a thin layer. I work in a street rod shop and with the humidity in texas, i have to spray self-etch on all my bare metal before i leave for the night, b/c ill come back in the morning with surface rust already formed.

Read the spec sheet on any self etching primer you use, it may or may not be waterproof. The only sure way to protect bare metal is to clean it very good then use a quality 2 part epoxy on it. Southern Polyurethane has one of the best I have ever used.
