how do you customize steel rims?

i saw a man that would spilt the rim in half so he could have wider tires but keep the look of a old steel rim if you have any info on the topic i would be happy to get that

my main objective is not to widen the rims (even though i would like to know how) but to lengthen the diameter of the rim so i can have 20 inch steelies with low profile tires

Check out www.wheelvintiques.com for your wheels. I know they have some 17's in the vette ralley wheels.

They started out making wider steelies.

Nothing is impossible but what you are suggesting is pretty near it. Making a steel wheel a larger diameter? Well I suppose if you had the 20 inch rim and could cut the step off each side and make a filler panel/disc sort of thing to fill in between the ald wheel and the lip off the 20. Or maybe just call someone like Wheel Vintiques and order some.

The dodge trucks with the 20's have 20" steel spares.

A friend of mine had a ranger with custom steelies, he said they cut the centers out of vette rallies (cringe!), and welded the ranger centers in.
