How do you mount an engine in a hot rod.

OK guy's when I bought my car it was a partially completed project. They had already put in the front clip and engine mounts. Now here's my question; if I had wanted to mount the engine myself how would I align it with the rest of the drive train. Can someone explain the process to setting up the engine mounts between the rails and making sure the drive train is all lined up correctly on a new hot rod where nothing is there yet.

Engine mounting

If you look at my journal you will see that I have a construction platform that I do this sort of thing on..I have my centerlines and wheelbase marked out on the jig so I have points to refer to..

when I am ready for motor mounts I have already set the rear end into place and have the locatin for the engine and tranny set up..I them block the engine/tranny assembly into place exactly where I need it to be..bolt the mounts on to the block and tranny and then measure for the mounting tabs that are to be welded to the chassis..

It is a constant process of checking to see that the pinion angles are corrrect and that the engine is set properly with the carb base level or very close to it..and of course the engine/tranny and rear pinion are aligned accordinging to the center line..

This is kind of the thumbnail of how mounting the engine goes,,,

start up front

Whatever you decide to use for mounts make sure you know what fan, electric, standard or clutch you are using. add an inch to give yourself some room for adjustment then find out how far back your motor mounts will go.
Your space for the radiator dictates the maximum forward placement.

OMT what a great journal. If you read through my journal, you will see my first project was fairly straight forward. The reason I asked the question is, I am considering doing something like you are doing. I will be following your journal with great interest.
