Question how to get flames to come out of my tailpipe

i tryed to run it from the + part of my battiry to a switch, to one end of the spark plug, and the same with the -.

Haven't done a flame thrower since high school days. We used a Model T coil hook up to a switch. You need soomething to give the plug the high engery spark. I would suggest you try one of the "custom sites" they now selll this in a kit form. Maybe the "Night Prowlers" out of Lamar, MO. for instance.

i saw one of these on trucks. THey put a spark plug into the exhuast and mounted a coil nearby. They they hooked up this control box to the ingnition that will turn off the spark in the engine so raw fuel will come out of the exhaust, while at the same time turning on the spark plug in the tial pipe....i can't remember the website though

If you really want to make them, it is best to have a seperate source of fuel, I know some guys that use gasoline, kerosene and other stuff, but the best is propane, but its also the most dangerous.
If you just hook it up so that the switch kills the motor and lights the tail pipes, it will push tons of raw gas through your motor and "wash out" your rings. I have a freind that ruined his caddy like that. He had to use 16 quarts of oil to get him home cause the rings were so bad.

If you want to make it a little safer take a small fisher regulator and take out the spring. This way the system will only get fuel when the motor is running. You also need to modify the injector so its at an angle. As the exhaust passes by it creates a vacuum. If the engine dies the gas stops flowing. (thats the theory anyway)

I have a 351W with a Holley 600 4bl on top. Can I just run it a little bit rich whenever I want flames and ignite whatever unburned fuel is in the exhaust? I don't want 3 foot flames. Just a bright flash is enough for me. Thanks.

Quite a few used to put a hand choke on the carb and choke it to the point of flooding out, hit a switch, throttle it up and WHOOSH!!! or something like that sound.

Sort of the same subject; I did some work in South Africa, and they install propane flame throwers as a theft deterent!! Not from the tailpipes though...... from the rocker panels.... holeee They are serious about security!!.

Are these flame throwers dangerous to your car? I mean, could you do serious damage, even with a well-thought out and tested flame thrower setup?

drgnwgn289 has a good point. . .too much raw fuel pushed through a combustion chamber doesn't sound too healthy to me. I think the safest way is to figure out a way to hook up your own 'flame thrower fuel supply' and introduce it into your exhaust pipe with an injector. But you'd need the plug to fire it too.

Since a car was not meant to do this kind of thing from the factory, I think we can pretty much rule out a 100% safe system. 'Cheap Fun' is what I'm after.
