i have a 0010 block and my date code is located on the front pass side. there is a small "ledge" where pass head bolts onto block.
as for combos, ryans pages is a great reference. my previous set up was a 230 @ .050 dur and 480 lift cam. edelbrock rpm perf intake and holley 600. the heads where 461 camel humps. car made 260 hp at the rear wheels on chassis dyno. approx 330 at crank. i then went a bought a roller cam, vortec heads and 750 holley. now making 310 at rear wheels. however, if i were to do it all over i would not get the vortec heads. i would have kept my intake, valve covers, and cam. i think i would have went with different heads than the vortec and now i am saving up for the AFR 190's. when you buy vortec heads you also need to buy a vortec style intake, center bolt valve covers and if using roller rockers as i did you need narrow body self aligning. just an idea of how things went for me. |

350 hp
Everyone has different expectations out of their motors, and the parts that they select. I can only go by what has worked for me in the past. I find that the vortec combo will allow you much leway to do what ever you so desire. I like the set up for use with 671 blowers,I have built several with little problems.I dont knowwhat everyones needs are my responce was just my based on my expereances. Thanks for your input if I get a chance I might give it a try. Dingerdq

i spent a lot of time and more money in the end then i originally planned, as the power bug hit me. the vortec heads are great, i just think that if i would have known from the beginning that i needed narrow body self aligning rockers(roller) and the tall center bolt valve covers to fit, on top of the vortec intake, that i would have chosen maybe some darts, or edelbrock heads or as it is now the more pricey afr's(power bug lol). wanted him to know exactly what he needs from the start. my 355 was just suppose to get a head swap and that was it. but that snowballed and the spending is out of control. please help. lol
again, i am happy with the end result i just wish i could have gotten there more efficiently, with out the mistakes i made. |

well ive told this story before but before i tell you how much power do you want. we took a 86 camaro 350/350th 456 gears,29tall cheater slicks and ran 12.00, all we had was a running 350 power packs and a comp cam 525 solid cam. the thing was so crazy fast for the money spent. we put the used victor jr and 830 holley on it, 4500 stall and only spent 1000 dollers. we later sold it and the guy wanted it JUST FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS. it was so worn out, It was not even funny 60over with warn out bearings but it would pull the tires in the air and the rpm you would never see again. all on good old gm parts.

I just bought a 72 ss with 350 and I'm stumped on what to do on this heavy Chevy. I want to keep the original motor, but need some input on what type of heads, cam, intake. I'm looking to try to get around 450-500 if possible, any advice would help thanks
