How hard is it to install a vinyl top on a hardtop car

I have a hardtop car that I would like to install a vinyl top on, are vinyl tops hard to apply? It seems that they would have to be pretty tight.

I've put a few on. It's easy in my opinion.
You use a contact type glue, ours says "Landau Top Adhesive" on it.
So you let both sides dry and then put them together. It's important to mark the center and get that section glued first, front to back. Then work towards the sides. You can heat and pull the C-pillar area if needed.

I'm assuming the top has to be bare steel right? Is there any way to shift the vinyl to get it straight after you first adhere it. What type of prep work is needed before installing the top?

Not a job for amatuers. You finish the top surface just as you would for paint. Any bare metal will invite rust under the vinyl. You will need more than one person to help you lay the prepped vinyl down. Once it touches IT IS STUCK!!!! no second chances..

Several others and myself have left instructions, check the archives.
