going from 340 to 450 lbs is not that great a change but if you like aluminum heads and manifold along with some shorty headers will save some pounds. Using the aod is a good idea as you can get a complete package from a donor ford product and just go ahead with the swap..myself i would not loose any sleep over the weight difference as those cars handle well and are sturdy in their construction..

And...There are other ways to get rid of weight...Move battery to the truck will save quite a bit on the front end etc.....

You are a hot rodder right? Some creative thinking and you can get a better fore and aft weight distribution..

I don't mind the thread taking a turn or two along the way. But all I'm really interested in is the SBF weight. |

I'd say in the neighborhood of 390lbs, using alloy heads, tin valve covers, and carbed,
not injected. The starting point would be a '90ish 5.0, as they're the lightest blocks, if you can find a 255cid crank, they're lighter than the 5.0L by 8 or so lbs... |

Several years ago I weighed some SBF parts on a 351W when I was trying to shave some weight the numbers will be close for a 302.
Edlebrock Aluminum heads saved 25 pounds per head (50 pounds) Edelbrock aluminum intake saved 40 pounds (will probably be a little less for a 302. say 35 pounds) Aluminum water pump 7 pounds AFB instead of Holley 5 pounds Headers and stock early style the headers actually weighed 4 pounds more although they were full legnth headers. Shorty headers would probably save a couple of pounds. |
