As long as the parts that are installed are generously coated with oil, you should have no problems. best bet is to always have any opening covered or plugged, like spark plug hole, water pump hole, dist, fuel pump, etc. Then keep the whole thing wrapped in a good thick mill plastic bag.
"Indefinitely"- if its preserved as above. I'd also suggest re-oiling and rotating the crankshaft every 3-6 months to prevent the piston rings from getting "used" to sitting in a certain position. It might not make a difference, but I like to be sure. This is probably more important if the heads are on though since it is *possibly not a good idea to have a valve spring compressed for years on end.
And the most important thing is to keep it indoors preferably in a humidity controlled environment.
