How long will catlyzed acrylic enamel last on a daily driver

I am having problems spraying urethane paint( two bad batches). I don't have hardly any problems spraying catlyzed acrylic enamel. Both are BASF Limco brand.

Paint shop says forget the urethane and spray enamel instead. I am trying to make a daily driver out of this 51 ford and want it to last a while.

Paint shop says 3 yrs tops on catyzed acrylic enamel.

What is your opinion or experience??

Thanks

Jimmy in nc

I think 3 years is a bit agressive, I would think it waould last longer than that, especially if it's clearcoated.

I painted a guys Monte Carlo that was never garaged in catalyzed acrylic enamel (no clear) and it has normal road rash like rock chips and sand pitting in front but basically looks pretty good and shiny. I saw it last year and that will mark 10 years since I did it- he washes and waxes regularly and it is a little swirly but not bad. (Iowa winters and all)

I would think under normal circumstances, 10 years would not be unexpected if it is a quality paint and used properly. Of course, no paint is going to last long if it isn't done right. Cheap paint will last even less, naturally.

If it is applied right, and taken care of, it should last as long as any paint job.

Of course that`s using a premium paint.

On the other hand the urethane would stand up better with less care.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info, 10 years sounds good. This paint is BASF Limco catalyzed acrilic enamel.

I did get another quart of the urethane to try for the third time. I found out today, that they replaced the orange tint. I had clumps of orange sponge like particles in the paint and little pieces of @#$%^&^%$@#$%^ sand like all in my paint. This is the third time coming up that I have painted it. Getting tired of sanding it down . I have 4 weeks of sanding time .

They wanted me to spray the enamel as I have done with the interior parts and have had no problems.

Cross your fingers.

Thanks Jimmy in nc
