How many of you karaoke?

Every Friday and Saturday night there is a place in my hometown that has karaoke. It's not strictly a bar, they have food and bowling so on any given weekend there is a mix of drunks, teetotalers and minors. My daughter and I have a blast getting up on stage and doing the karaoke thing.

I was just wondering how many of you like to karaoke?

Odly enuff, as much as I've been around it, including judging several Karaoke Contests, I have never been a victum of the microphone. I have heard some pretty awesome talents singing with that "canned music". Most of my family is musically gifted and performing with your daughter has to be a great joy for you. When I have the opportunity to perform with my 2 sons, I'm in hog heaven.

Crash? is there anyway you could get an audio to share with us? I would really enjoy hearing it.

The only clip of any kind that I know of so far is a video of me singing "Long White Cadillac" that friend recorded on his smart phone a couple of weekends ago. He is back in Germany but I can see if I can get it. If not I think my wife's camera has that capability.

I have only done the Karaoke thing a few times, what I did a LOT for about four years was the jam night tour. I hit every jam night in the area and would get up on stage with a band to do a number at a number of places that weren't even having a jam night. I REALLY enjoyed doing it. This was before the ease of videos so I have it only on 8mm video and need to get the hardware to covert them to digital.
But honestly, I had a ball doing that, what fun. If you are doing the Karaoke, check out jam nights in your area and go watch them, talk to the guy and see if he knows a song you do well and then you have it. I use to have about a 50 song repertoire and I REALLY had a good time as I said, I was a friggin star for three songs.

When I was gigging full time, sometimes I would end up a part of the "house band" and we always called that "open mic night" - - - - sometimes it was refreshing and new, which sit down gig musicians need, but sometimes it was not. We were backing a gal one night that kept breaking meter and she turned around and told the band that they needed to wait for the chord changes because she had her ?OWN? way of singing certain songs.

At our local Moose Lodge on the last Friday of the month we have a local band that plays for a few hours then goes to an open mike karaoke deal. We have some super talent, a 14 y.o. girl that wants to try out for American Idol in a couple of years, she may have a chance to make it if she gets a few voice lessons, a very unique voice that is fun to listen to. One of our members floors me, does Barry White as well as Barry ever did him! Awesome. I can't carry a tune either but love listening to raw talent.

That is one thing that is cool, there is some real talent out there and you get to see some. I went to a bar once, I don't even remember were it was, I was out working as I remember and staying over night in this town and we went to a bar with Karaoke. Some bashful guy got out there sitting on a chair not even looking at the crowd and belted out a few tunes like a pro.

Alas, the only song that I can remember the words to is "Happy Birthday" and the only musical instrument I've truly mastered is the radio. My peeps never ask for a oncore!

This post brought back memories. Being a tea-totaler and non-smoker. I never frequented bars much but

I had this girlfriend back in the mid nineties that was a devoted karaoke singer.. On our second date and for eighteen months, every Thursday evening it was singing at a local karaoke bar

She did an awsome Patsy Kline. She was only five foot tall and I couldn't figure out where that voice came from. I did mostly comedy songs. Purple People eater etc.

We did win a few local contests. Prizes included mostly free concert tickets to Detroit venues.

Remember the Blues Brothers movie with the chicken wire screen? that was pretty much what my one and only attempt at it looked like.
