How much do I charge?

Ive got a client who has a 23 model T fiberglass body that he wants painted black with real flame. Hes put down $900.00 Ive spent a lot of time sanding and making it real nice, but have no idea what to charge him. He could very well bring me a lot more bodys if the price is right but I dont want to cheat myself. If anyone has a round-a-bout price range I would sure appreciate it. Im thinking somewhere between $2500.00-$3500.00

you need to charge by the hour on those Fiberglass bodys.. it also needs to set in the sun for a couple of weeks before you start messing with it.. and $2500-3500 would not be nearly enough IMO to do that job.. You can easily figure 200+ hours on any old restoration and fiberglass bodys are as much work as metal ones.. sometimes even more... The lowest shop rate around here I have seen is $45.00/hr.. multiply that by 200 and that does not include materials.. so now you are looking at 9 grand minus material.. if you do it for half, you are still looking at $4500 minus materials.. Its always up to the individual doing the work, so you must make the call

He's right. That way if it doesn't take all that long to do,he makes out great. If it takes a little longer then you still get paid for it.A customer always thinks that the body is never as bad as what the hours are for it.But you need to get paid for your time.Shop rates here in south florida are $65-$85 per hour.I usually go for bodywork and paint at $50 per hour.Custom work/lead/custom paint is $80 per hour. You could just go time/materials route. That is always the best way,for me anyways.
