How much fluid for 4l60e trans?

I installed a freshly built 4l60e transmission into my 56 chevy and am ready to fill it up. How much fluid does this transmission hold, including the TC?

Do I add the full quantity at once or in increments? Do I add it with the engine running or can the engine be off?

Thanks,

the trans will hold anywhere from 11 1/4 qts on up. start with 4 qts, start the vehicle and then add till u get to 11 qts., then run through the gears and recheck. will take a bit more to top off.
do not start the engine without any fluid in the trans, and it must be running to fill after the initial 4 qts or the trans will not properly fill up and most likely puke out of the vent.
allways check level with engine @ operating temp, and with the trans in park. (at least the 4l60e)
also, unless uve added a deep pan, or a extra large aux. cooler, most likely it wont take over 12 1/2 qts. gl.
