How much horsepower? 408 sbc

I have a 400 sbc 40 over, zero decked with flat top pistons. isky 280 mega hyd. cam. dart pro1 platinum 200cc heads with 72cc chambers. stock crank,5.7 rods. pro form 750 race style carb and an air gap style dart intake called the cool can. if i am missing any info let me know. I have looked all over for someone with these new style dart heads on a 400 and cant find any good comparisons with hores power ratings. I appreciate any help.

anywhere from 475 to 525 is my guess

Thanks, does anyone foresee any problems with running a stock 8.5" rear end and drive line?

The 8.5 is a strong rearend it can take a pretty good beating my 8.5 has done real good no problems yet. It all depends on you , How you are going to drive it what type tires and gears. But mainly how heavy is your foot on take off . I am running a 408 in my 67 camaro rearend has done well so far busted one transmission though i am running 373 gear with 26 inch tall street tires. Just so you know the 408 puts out a S***t load of torque and all around horsepower . And my foot is real heavy .........Cole

I wont have tires for a while but i would like some drag radials around 29". what kind of tranny did you burn up? i have a 700 r4 with a 13 vane pump, heavy sun shell, and shift kit. I hope it stays together. also this is all in a 1979 caprice coupe that weighs about 3800 pounds

My 700r4 behind my Vortec 406 began dying in less than 500 miles.

The tranny is holding fine i broke the bell housing from the starter all the way around the other side of the bell. I am running a TH-350 , 3500 stall the trans has had a lot of work done to but i don't know exactly was done to it , When we swapped the case after the other broke we found that someone had drilled it out in places and there was just alot done to it......Cole

You may need some more information to use this. Try to google Eagle Performance Rods and use the calculator on the side screen of Eagles' site. I'm working on a 400 sbc build also and found this mighty helpful in my build combination.

Recall how much horsepower on 408 sbc

I would like to recall the thread I just sent. I was working on Comp Ratio and clearance tolarances not horsepower. Sorry for the memory lapse.
