how much horsepower will engine make

Im building a sbc 421all forged its dart block 4.155 bore 3.875 stroke with afr 227 heads flow at 700 are 318 intake 237 exhaust im use lunati solid roller cam 645 and 645 lift @ 50 283 and 291 im use 1.6 jesel shaft mounts which take lift to 688 on both victor intake and 1050 dominator carb and compression be bout 11.5 to 1 with hooker longtube 1and 7/8 headers msd billet distributor and gear drive timing set 7 quart oil pan if u need any more info let me know thanks for any info in advance

680 plus would be a conservative figure

bigdog7373 10-17-2012 01:01 PM

I would guess a solid 550 to 600. I hope this is a race engine. I'd lose the gear drive though, a good double roller is better.

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 01:18 PM

Big difference between the two guesses I hope its more 550 Ive had thought bout. going belt drive have been reading a lot about vibrations being passed between cam and crank with gear drive im probly go to belt or double roller it will be raced from time to time but going be my daily driver also .

bigdog7373 10-17-2012 01:24 PM

With 11.5:1 compression i highly doubt it will be your daily driver for long. The fuel you need is like 10 bucks a gallon

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 03:13 PM

Yea im drive it daily I only go like 20 miles round trip and dont sit in any traffic really. And I have friends running 11to 1 on 93 with no problems so I figured I could get away with running 100 octane which I can get at gas station for bout 7 bucks a gallon and im good with that no one said it was cheap if u going play u going pay I know this to be true as im be north of 10000 just in motor my main thing was I wanted bout 650 hp. Or more and was wondering if I was on right track as I dont own computer and dont have computer dyno just going by what people recommended with some of my knowledge just wondering what other thought

bigdog7373 10-17-2012 05:45 PM

You would be better off building it 8:1 compression then pushing around 8lbs of boost through it. You'd make more power and it would be more street friendly.

Im not guessing the horse power that engine will make! I have a 434 with similar parts. You are using a bigger camshaft than me.The belt driven cam has advantages for race engines. My cam is 256/164 @ 50,I use shaft offset rockers, same,,,,,etc,,,, My heads flow 327 cfm.

I did not ask any questions, like, Are you using an engine vacuum pump, oil scraper, crank fired ignition? what crank,is it zero balanced or under? whats the lobe separation and intake centre line,Im using 108/108 with a smaller cam. sounds like you are using a 7400 rpm cam? depends on lobe sep and icl? perfect carb for a 7500 rpm stroker mouse,,,I use a 950,,,etc

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 08:56 PM

The flow numbers are the ones afr gives out the box I always have work done to them by a head porter just to clean everything up I dont have finally flow numbers yet the cam lobe separation is 106. icl is 100 it will be msd crank fired ignition with digital 7 box with extra lift cam should be bout 7800 to 8000. Crank is scat 4340 forged scat.6 inch rods forged j e pistons forged I am just getting parts not together yet I will have it fully balanced so I dont have any of the number to that yet

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 08:58 PM

If u dont mind me asking what kind of power u getting out the 434

vinniekq2 10-17-2012 09:36 PM

I will pm any info on my engine you want.If you have roon, run a vacuum pump and adjust oil pressure accordingly.A super vic manifold will give you more on top than the vic jr I use. That 106/100 cam will have a nasty idle, probably about 1200 rpm.what trans are you using?

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 10:11 PM

im going run 400 turbo built with transbrake and sorry yes its a super victor should have said so its going be ported and port matched to heads

vinniekq2 10-17-2012 10:29 PM

sounds like a 10 or 11 second ride, depending on weight and gearing. If you are using it for 1/4 mile racing?

idontdrivericeieatit 10-17-2012 11:13 PM

Going in 84 olds cutlass that be bout 3200 pds with me in it. Gear going be 5.13 as I am only running eight mile and some back road racing if I do run quarter which I doubt I can just change gear the tracks closest to me are eight so that prob be what I do mostly never know I might take it to charlotte north Carolina they have a 4 strip drag strip. There that is quarter mile just to see what it runs dont know if u know where it is or have heard of it just closest one to me but I have a few eight mile tracks a lot closer

vinniekq2 10-17-2012 11:24 PM

5.13s might work well for 1/4 with 30 tall slicks.130 mph at 7500 rpm with 30 inch slicks if no slipping in converter at that speed.
