How much hp am I lossing? performer eps vs performer rpm
i've got a .60 over 350 chevy with 10:1 compression, ported 601 heads with 2.02 1.6 valves, short tube "block hugger" headers, a xe274h comp cam .490 lift
and a 600cfm 1405 edelbrock performer carb with a 1 inch open spacer now for the question, how much hp am I killing by running a performer eps manifold as opposed to the performer rpm ? I have both intakes, i run the performer eps because it's endurashined and it looks ******, while the rpm is just natural aluminum I don't race my car, but if i'm really killing power big time with the eps i'll switch it out |
not much,five or so,horses

Bump to the top
Looking if anyone else has anymore feedback |
get a bigger carb.the 600 is holding you byack more

I hate edelbrock carbs. Get a holley 750, 3310 and use the RPM intake if you have the hood clearance. 70's Covettes have this issue, as the RPM intake doesn't fit under the stock hood so are limited to the performer or torker intakes.
I say you are losing at least 15 hp. The performer losses power compared to the RPM on cams over 255 to 260 degrees (advertised duration) and gets worst as the cam gets bigger. do a web search. I found this article right away. Dyno-Testing Small-Block Intakes - Induction Extravaganza - Mopar Muscle Magazine |
The only way you will really know is to take it to the local track and race it and try it with both.
Or...we could ask my Magic Squirrel... Otherwise does it really matter? you have other stuff that is limiting the power like the small carb and small headers etc. And the hiway speed limit in your state is....? |
Not much 5-10hp

A bigger carb is definitely in the horizon, just wondering if the intake in itself was causing a huge loss of power
I added the one inch open spacer as a band-aid to hopefully get some little power in the top-end Any who, thanks guys, I guess a test would really have to be in order |
