The better question is how much are you looking to make?

With your typical street hyd cam and dual plane manifold expect around 300-325hp. tops. With a lot of cr and a big big racy cam, around 360-370hp. Not much of a torque curve. If you were to max port these heads, sparing no effort you can get around 400hp ( big,big cam lots of cr (domed pistons) and rpm)

For a low budget performance build, I prefer to start with a small chamber #416 305 head because its $$easier$$ to build compression. In stock form they don't flow any better (or worse).
Then I port the hell out of them and install 1.94x 1.60' valves. Makes a pretty good low buck street performance head. a little nicer and cheaper to finish than using a 882 head.

You really have to watch how much $$$'s you spend getting a 882 head ready for use. If you can't do it all for $400 or less, all said and done, start looking at other alternatives. There are much better heads to work with.
Small combustion chambers make more compression for less $$$'s
A set of out of the box assembled World 200cc Sportsman II's
or Summit house brand 200cc aluminum S&S heads
will flat out outperform these heads for a few $$$'s more.

A out of the box #12558060 GMPP vortec head ($600/pr) with no mods and a .450" cam will leave any 882 headed motor in the dust.
The best place for a 882 or 624 casting head is on the end of a chain, at the bottom of a lake. Makes a great fishing boat anchor.

Jokes310 seems to be in a mood tonight, making goofy posts that are being deleted as we speak. Maybe need to let the meds kick in before getting too involved in answering too many more questions.

Speaking of meds....how's it going DV!

Is There Anybody Out There?
Too much

Those 882's, I've had motors that had them on 'em. One, in particular was a 400. I bought it from my brother, whole car, '72, std bore. I plucked it,shoved some FT, a 290 adv/218*@.050/.450" 114 GK cam and I ran it in a '79 Rallye Sport for 10,000 miles with a two barrel before ever thinking of needing a 4! They worked very good on that motor and it would shred the tires every single day.

I recently gave a set of 882's away, brand new fresh, with roller tip rockers. I couldn't think of anything I'd use 'em on, nor was I going to.

with 10.5:1 cr, a compcam 292H, proper valve springs, headers, performer rpm intake, and a holley 750, those heads could make 380 to 400hp. But you would also need 4.11 gears and a 3000 rpm stall converter.

That same engine with a set of dart 200cc iron eagles or a set of 195 afr's would make 450hp.

You were making some goofy posts last night that us moderators were busy deleting.

The "meds" part was a joke and also directed at DV (doublevision)

He Means me, I`m DV. Mark and I have a long going joke about meds as sometimes we get guys on here that drive us crazy enough to want to take prozac. Also for a while I was on many meds as I was recovering as I still am from back surgery. The only meds I take now is advil. As for the line "Is there anybody out there?" Comes from Pink Floyd`s 1979 CD The Wall and it has nothing to do with meds or drugs, I`ve never did a Illegal drug in my life and I`m proud of that fact. I`ve had that line on there a while now, and it means just what it says, the meaning it has for me is what many don`t realize, You are all you got, you is all your ever gonna have, so in reality, your alone.

Have you noticed that Prozac does the same thing to your life that Muzak does to people in an elevator?

Some came with 2.02x 1.60" valves. You're wasting your time and money with these heads. They are the worst of the worst. Find some other head castings to start with thats has some real performance potential.
