how much

A gallon of BC and a gallon of clear will give you more than enough. You'll want BC left over in case of future repairs or repaints. Shoot three coats of clear, sand it smooth then shoot two more.

regards

Ron

Actually it's customers project, I'm doing it as a side project. He's been working on it for a while now and it was pretty rusty when he pulled it from the field.

Cool. You'll have to post up pictures. My buddy painted a 40 and went through the better part of a gallon. Thats why I was planning on using 2 gallons to have some extra left over.

He wants acrylic urethane so it matches original sheen better but I'm suggesting bc/cc to him so it will last longer in the long run.

paint volume for paintjob

the guy that said a gallon base/ gallon clear.( to leave some extra for future repairs) is right on the money. I did a single stage cat uerthaine on my falcon. no clear and threw on 2 extra coats just in case had to sand / buff out imperfections. had a little under a quart left ( non catalized) when i was done. the only thing that stinks about single stage cat uerthaine is if you ever have to touch it up you have to catatlizr such a big amount and waiste soo much. I just got a lacquer touch up pint mixed when i had the gallon mixed and it matches great. might seem like overkill and probably was but they guy gave me shop prices because i had previously worked at a bodyshop that did business with them so not really a lot extra for the pint.

my true favorite paint is lacquer with clearcoat. the problem is can be tough to get for your regular guy( some paint suppliers are a little less tha helpful price wise) and the price if you pay full retail can get a little high

I have mixed as little as 5 ounces of catylized acrylic urethane for touch ups. The paint I used is mixed 4 to 1 . 4 tablespoons of paint to 1 tablespoon of activator and just a dab of reducer. I use the small touch up gravity feed gun from HF. Worked great. One gallon of acrylic urethane is plenty for that job, BTW Durability is good also. I liked the Summit racing package deal.
