how much supplies to buy?

Hey guys,

Long time reader, first time poster. I'm getting ready to paint my 76 monte carlo jet black. Its stripped down to metal and I'm doing the metal work now, first time doing it so it's taking time. The doors are ready for urethane primer. I'm gonna put down some urethane primer, skim coat w/ bondo, spray some sandable primer, and then base/clear it.

How much supplies should I buy for a car that size? I was told 2 qts would cover it, but I'm very suspicious. I'm looking to put down three coats of base, and three clear. How much urethane primer and sandable primer do I need, how much bc/cc do I need (it'll be urethane too) Thanks,

Adam

Welcome to HR.com

in my opinion, i think one gallon of base and clear will be plenty. i tried to get by with a half gallon, key word tried.
the amount of primer will vary, depending on how straight you want to get.

a pro could cover it well with 2 quarts, but if your not a pro, as i am not, it'll take more. if you buy a gallon, you'll have some left over for future repairs if needed....

When I painted my moms car last February I bought a gallon of urethane enamel for it. This was for a 89 Dodge Daytona, I had enough paint to put on 3 coats of paint and this is a small car. With base clear you will need at least 2 quarts of base, 3 quarts would be better, and a gallon of clear should do it. Also use a good sealer tinted to the same color your car is going to be painted.
