How much will my 9 inch take?

70 cougar 9inch 3.55 gears new detroit no spin locker. stock 28 spline axles new pinion support ( purple anodized) works awesome! I make approx 420 hp/tq. I plan to put drag radials ( as big as my stock wheel well will allow, not sure what that is) right now i have 255 75? 15. Im sure i'll have to go to after market axles.I plan on making 450 to 500 hp/tq tops in the future. My question is will after market 28 spline axles take it? Ive been told no from Hotrods n classics. But the guy that built it last year said yes. What are your opinions. I just wanna stay away from having to buy another locker that will accept 31 or 33 splines. But in the end if i must i must.

thanks for any help people
Bill

When you say " idler gears" do you mean the gears on the side of the locker... cause if so, thats awesome! I wondered if they could be changed or not. Ill look it up some more thanks Burnt Olds.
