How to recieve more bass from 6x9's
How are you doing guys? Im new to this board and this is my first post. Seems like a real helpful site! My question is that I have an '85 monte carlo, and the back is SUPPOSE to have 4x6 i believe or that similar size. But im running 6x9's. My question is, its sounds 'alright' but im lookin for more base. But in the monte carlos, theres no board for them to sit on, so the bass is balanced. How can i recieve more bass, like it would sound in a box or so? The rear deck is way to small to fit 6x9's. Can anyone help me? Thanks ahead of time!

to get bass get some subs. i just put 2 10" rockfords in my 82 grandprix in a sealed box and they are awesome.

i dont have any subs yet, im just running on 4''s and 6x9s? Anything else i can do to recieve more bass?

If you want more bass from the 6x9s, You can install an amp to power them and put the speakers in a box. I have seen boxes that are already made for 6x9s but they are $30 for just one speaker, but you could always make your own.

another thing that will help is to toss the front dash speakers and install some decent door speakers. The in-dash speakers make little or no bass but tons of high frequency.

I have 6x9 s in my car now, I amped em too, they get terrible bass, their not high quality though, but still 6x9s get good mid-ranges. If you want better bass just get a sub, if you get an amp for the 6x9s you probably spend 200 for a good amp. A sub and box might cost you another 50 bucks for a decent one. Also make sure you get a decent head unit even before a sub or amp. If your head unit doesn't put out enough amps then somehow it will ruin your subs and can even hurt your amp. Also a head unit will allow you to immediately increase bass even in he 6x9s because it provides more power, and enables you to further customizer the frequency going into the speakers

i can't believe nobody has mentioned the frequencies of sound at this point. you want bass. bass is a low hertz frequency. 6x9s aren't built to do that. they are made to cover a wide range of sound from the higher bass frequencies to the higher tweeter ranges. In a 6x9 you're only going to get a woofer which will give some bass. SUBwoofers are called this because they work BELOW the frequencies of a woofer. so i guess my point is, don't try and make the 6x9s do the work of a sub because it ain't gonna happen.

The best way to make MAJOR BASS is to get a 2 ohm amp and run 4 subs, two off each channel. I can get you really good prices on stereo equip.

Like red65mustang says the OHMs should be matched, on a GM most are 4 OHMs. When getting any new speaker look at the sensitivity db the higher the better the speaker thru the whole range, same on sub-woofer's the better the bd louder the bass.
The ones in the 90 bd ratings are far much more superior and don't forget to hook up the positive wire to the correct side as this will lower the sound level. An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how efficiently speakers converts power into sound. The higher the number, the louder the speakers will play.
