How to remove axle from differential, 1970 C-10

This is the rear end on a 1970 Chevy c10 pickup. Number is 3817778 11:4, GM 6-70 1 4:1 on the gears. I need to change the rear axle seal, but am unsure how to remove the axle. Any other information on this rear end would be helpful. Pictures I have found don't look the same as this one.

that photo is not a transmission. It is a differential.

Which do you need information on?

that differential should be a "C" clip design. Push the axle ''in'' and C shaped clip on the inner end of the axle is removed. Diff cover must be removed

There should be a retaining bolt that is holding the shaft in the center of the differential. Remove that bolt and the shaft should come out. When you get the shaft out you need to push in on the axle (with the wheel and brake drum removed). Then you can remove the c clip from the end of the axle and the axle will slide out.

This might help. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tr...ing-axles.html
