How to remove windshield in 48 Ford Pickup

I have a friend getting ready to remove the windshield out of his 48 Ford truck. He has never taken one out and I told him I would check to see if anyone could give me a heads up on the proper way to take one out without breaking it. Looks to me like you would destroy the gasket and replace it on install. Appreciate any advice or instruction.
Thanks,
Dave

If you plan to replace gasket take a Stanley knife or something like that and cut gasket on out side of glass and just lift out. If you plan to save gasket work from inside at a top corner and work gasket out over pinch weld you may have to use a slight amount of pressure on glass to get it to move. Be carefull as too much pressure or trying to force it will crack glass. To replace glass put a thin rope in rubber gasket where pich weld goes. Start at bottom of glass and go all the way around untill you just pass over where you started rope. then spray with glass cleaner on rubber and pich weld or use w-d-50.set glass up in place and start from one end with rope and as you pull rope the gasket should go over pich weld. when you've pulled rope out all the way around glass should be in.

You have a very high percentage chance of breaking the windshield if it is the original (or just plain old). You will most likely destroy the gasket as well as it is probably rusted in the fit.

My feeling is that since a '48 has a flat piece of glass, cut the gasket on the outside of the truck and push it out, don't worry if the glass cracks - a new piece of flat safety glass is fairly inexpensive - just try to keep from shattering it completely and use it for a template for a new, clean and possibly tinted winshield.

Great ideas, thanks for the response. Got the glass out without breaking it and using it for a pattern for new glass.
Thanks,
Dave
