How to set pressure on HVLP...help, please.

I have regulator mounted to the handle of my HVLP gun. I need to know how to get the right pressure at this regulator.

From another site, telling how to set up the HVLP for use, I see this statement....

"Next set the regulator on the gun handle to 50 psi (what I use for DP40 and K36) with the trigger pulled and leave it set there."

...I can get 50 psi on the gauge, with the trigger released, but as soon as I pull the trigger, the pressure drops way down. Adjusting the pressure up with the regulator only gets me to about 30 psi with the trigger pulled....I can get nowhere near 50 psi.

Are the above instructions correct and I am just doing something wrong, or should the pressure be set with the trigger released?

Thanks.

Mark
