What is your nozzle size?
If nozzle is on the small side, open fluid control wide open.
I would start with fan wide open also.
Bring your pressure up till atomization is good.
If your spray pattern is uneven try to choke the fan just enough to achieve even pattern.
Using a test panel determine how fast you must move the gun.
Fast production speed is good to ensure wet on wet.
By the way, I have some expensive guns and some new cheap guns. I am amazed at how well the cheap guns atomize the paint. For me, it is easier to get good atomization with compliant/conventional guns than HVLP; maybe because that is what I am used to.
