I checked into renting Famoso drag strip (Bakersfield, home of the legendary March Meet, operated by Kern County) for a Gasser Gathering by the Mid America Willys Club. The strip carries insurance for sure but sponsors for each major event are required to post bond for insurance for the event so the track is not liable. The track also offered to supply complete personnel for a price or would allow the sponsor to provide its own personnel. Nostalgia events have been drawing in excess of 60,000 attendees for a 3-day weekend. As I recall, the track wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $25,000 for full service (non-fuel) so you do the math - @ 60,000 x $15 = nearly a $million.

As with any business, if your business plan is sound, you have good product, good marketing and good customer base, money is there to be made. You must take a chance but that is the case in any business, but the rewards are good for those who take the chance and win.

At a minimum you need,
- a business plan
- source of capital (under capitalized business ventures is the #1 cause of failure)
- commitments from major event sponsors (NDRA, IHRA, NHRA, etc.)

The best way to prepare for ANY business venture is to apprentice for a few years so you know it inside and out. It is almost impossible to cold start a grass roots business that you don't know intimately.

Woohoo, speaking of that.. march meets next weekend

Yep. I'm holding my nose (so I don't get overtaken by the GoodGuys stench) and going.
