Question How Strong is a Chevy 10 Bolt Rearend

I have a 76 Monte Carlo with a 10 bolt posi rearend. I plan to install a 400cid 425HP with 452 ft. Lbs. of torque. I plan on changing the transmission from a TH350 to a TH400.
My question is: Is the 10 bolt rearend strong enough for street (Hot Rodding) ?

*I am using 275-60-R15 tires on the rear.
*The car weighs 3900#

Thanks for your help !

big joe the 10 bolt is very strong but boy that is a vey heavy car and it will really pull on that 10 bolt.

i used one in my t bucket for many years and that 327 c.i. engine was built but the weight of a t is nothing near 3900 lbs.

useing an auto trans will save you though as they can't put as much of a load as a standard tranny might..

good luck

bomo
