That's a mechanical gauge. No wires required except for the dash light.
Test it before installing. Place the "bulb" end of the "tube" in boiling water.
Does it have a "bulb" end on the tubing? If not it no good. It a sealed system.
As Vicrod said, it's a mechanical gauge. The capillary tube attached to the back of the gauge should have a "bulb" on the end of it. The bulb is usually filled with ether. As the temperature of the bulb increases, the vapor pressure of the ether increases as well. So in reality, the gauge operates off pressure, although it's calibrated in units of temperature. And gauges like this can be repaired if the ether leaks out. A search on Youtube or Google will show you how.
it WILL have a bulb on the end and a fitting on the outer case to seal it. it goes into a fitting that comes with the gage that screws into a water port. if there is no bulb buy another it's shot. 20 bucks at autozone or others. get a pic of the end and post it..
that hole u are talking about is for a lite bulb only.. no power needed if u don't want the lite.
