Neil check out some of the Chroma-Lusion colors from Dupont you might find a color that will show up slightly and a have cool color that changes, There are other brands also, PPG, Sherwin Williams, kinda pricey but doesn't hurt to look and get new ideas!

Alright GHOST flames are done with candy paint and are flames laying beneith the color coat. PHANTOM flames are flames done with pearl essence and regular two stage paint, these flames lie above the color coat. Which are you wanting?

Here is some help for you to figure it out.

Who will be painting it?

How much do you have to spend?

Candy isn't cheap and neither is easy to spray :D

Neil,
Check out this article. http://customsbyflash.com/flames Ghost flames are flames painted that are such that at certain angles are very hard to see and seem to fade right into the body. Sometimes this is accomplished by using pearl paints that are very close to the body color with a few highlites. Others are done by tinting a clear to change the shade ever so much. Around these neck of the woods either you have two types... the basic flames that contrast the color of the car or you have the ghost flames that are similiar to the color of the car. Then there are variances of the types of flames from the layed look which has flames over flames, tribal flames, etc. By the way, red ghost flames would look good as long as they are done correctly and a deeper red so it does blend back into the black. Here is a good example of ghost flames http://woodgraining.com/flash/flames/flame8.jpg

And here is your basic pearl flames over a contrasting color http://woodgraining.com/flash/flames/flame5.jpg

Not sure about those pearl flames. They just look like red flames. The picture looks very similiar to phantom flames that I have seen. I saw a set on a black Dart and they looked very similiar to the chevy picture. The ones I saw were white to blue to red fade with pearl. You could not even see them in certain light.

Thanks, those were the kinda flames I was thinking. ;) ;)

Kevin45 11-10-2002 02:25 AM

The red flames are shot over a pearlescent base coat. Camera shots are not the best pics as the real thing close up. As far as PHANTOM flames, Phantom flames are just another word for ghost flames. Do an internet search on both and see what you come up with. Also hit some other rodder sites and check out the different flames. You only have two types and many variations of either. If I am incorrect on this then I can stand corrected on the terminology, just show me some hard facts.

I'd say if you think flames would look cool on your camaro, go for it! Rodding is all about individuality anyway.

Red flames on black with a black interior sound awesome to me though, if you just need opinions. :D

Oops, I meant red interior. <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" />

Thanx for your opinion :) :) Wondering if anyone had any pics of red phantom flames on a black vehical.

Will's41 11-24-2002 07:15 AM

No photos here but I think it would look great. I like to use candies, it's not hard to spray in small sections like flames....whole cars is another thing. Go For it!
