Howdy everyone!

I stumbled across this forum as I was looking for more info on my 1959 Rambler 6 Super Cross Country Wagon hows that for a car title??? anyway I just traded a S&W 357 Magnum revolver for this car and it runs and drives!!! I have a lot of rotted floor to deal with but I am excited to finally own a classic and rare car.

Looking for any assistance from owners of similar vehicles on known issues, tips, tricks, etc. this has the factory straight six and three on tree manual.

The chrome looks to be in good shape too. Thats a big plus.

Yes all the trim is there and in great condition. Thats the way I got it, I will probably finish the black primer as a temporary covering for the exposed metal. eventually I want to do the body in satin lavender, and fins and roof in gloss white. but I gotta fix the problems before i get into spending money on decoration, function first!

Just found out there were only 66,739 produced. lord knows how many were crushed due to rotten floors...

Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted, and start a project journal here too. Some of the other rambler guys have a few also.
A project journal is great. Gives you a place to show your talent and helps others when they have a car of there own and need ideas for there own build.

Boy, that car brings back a lot of memories. My grandfather had a 59 Rambler wagon like yours - his was green with a white top. He lived in Stockton, CA and we lived in Waco, TX. He'd drive straight through, more than 24 hours only stopping for gas, to visit. He'd choose the "northern route" through the mountains or the "southern route" through the desert depending on the time of year. Good luck with your progress. I had a '65 American, no doubt they get looks... The '59 Super 6 would have the 195.6" engine, if it's got some problems, a swap could be cheaper than a rebuild but rebuild parts can be obtained if you wished to go that route. However, in 1963 AMC introduced the 232 I6, a very stout engine, much better than the Nash design 195.6" ( 196" in all common respects ) which dates back to the 1930's. You can use a pre 1970 232 and it will bolt right in. Then you have more modern hp and more modern reliability. 232 turned into the 4.0L Jeep engine we know today

The 196 needs it's valves adjusted every other oil change approx, and head torqued every other oil change. They can be dead reliable but you do need to take care of them.
