Howdy from Virginia, USA
I'm a 62 year old hippie gone bad, involved with drag racing in 60's in SoCal, spectator, crew and finally owner of D altered (VW), had a 57 chevy/350/350 in 70, carreer and personal family took over in 70 and started buying new cars for work and personal, I got so I even had someone else change my oil!....fast forward to 2004, Harleys got scary and by accident I rediscovered "street rods", we were going to Reading PA for an air show and stopped at CrackerBarrell for breakfast and saw a whole lot of neat cars, found out there was a "show" at York so we went and got bit by street rod bug, my bride of 40 years also has a need for speed so we decided to get into "street rodding")....Since I don't have the time (I still have a 12 hr a day job) and a lot of my big mechanic tools (welder, presses, mill, buffer) were gone we would have to buy a car that was done, a complete car ready to just put gas in it and drive....RIGHT....After looking at York, Bowling Green, Louisville and online at least an hr a day, we bought a 33 ford 3w glass coupe(downs, 355sbc, 400, MII, 9") in Toledo, Sept 04, drove it back to Virginia (yes drove it, my boat has a trailer, cars have tires) a 12 hr trip, we learned a lot about that car on that trip!....In February of 05 we bought another car, 34 Nash 4dr resto-rod(454, 700R4, vette irs)....by now we know that much work has to be done to get the cars the way we want them, we should get the Nash on the road in a month! Last year we went to Myrtle Beach, Hershey, Bowling Green, Richmond....this year it will be Myrtle Beach, Richmond and somewhere every weekend around here....I am remembering how to do most things I already knew but forgot and many new ways to solve old problems....Since I watch too many old tapes I won't be offering advise very often, but I will be reading the posts a lot....chuck shotwell
