HP gain with the exhaust system on crate 350 chevy

I race in the NASCAR Super Truck series and we have to run the Crate 350 chevy from GM. The spec header part #9312 is a over the top style into a 4" collecter then into a spec flowmaster muffler STI part #9311.

The question is, currently I just have a elbow right off the end of the muffler. And ive heard from other compeditors that running the exhaust out the door will net me 4-7HP. the length i have to make the pipe to run out the door is about 13".

gota try and find every last HP in a spec series! Thanks for any help

I don't know how that would increase hp. If you are going to try it make sure you run a big pipe so it flows freely.

It is possible, tuned lengths in exhaust can make a difference.

Maybe it's the airstream suckin' on the end of the pipe that makes the additional hp....
