Hplv, Rp,lplv ?

There seems to be a greater selection of spray guns today then ever before. HPLV, LPLV, and RP. This would probably be a good time to explain the current situation on each gun and their benefits and weaknesses.

Can anyone explain the differences and what is good for which paints?
I have a 60gal. compressor that has CFM of 14.5/16.5. I am looking to paint metallic basecoat with extra micro and mini flake and then clearcoat.

All info is greatly appreciated.

With the spec's or lack of spec;s you gave on the compressor, It looks like you have what they call a cheater compressor and with the scfm rating on the cheating side, your options are real limited to type of gun you can use unless you are just doing a fender and a door at one time.

The gun you need is the lowest scfm rating you can find if you are planning on doing an allover.

Just my 2.3367 cents worth.

Of course this advice and a $1.50 will buy you a cup of coffee.

It is a 7.5 hp, 135 PSI, quad with 220v hookup with a 40amp breaker.
This is all I know about it. I hope this is what you are asking for.

That should be more than adequate.

but back to the original question, is one of the new gun standards for lower pressure more promising or is HPLV still the way to go, considering that I will spray metallics.
Thanks

Yup. Not sure why 14-16cfm was considered too low. Should have your choice of guns then, no?
